LBRR: Hello Raine and thank you for joining us today!

Raine: Thanks for having me Love Bites. J I am looking forward to chatting with you!

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself.

Raine: I am a single mother of 2 kids ages 5 and 7. I write romance erotica in the genres of fantasy, contemporary under my pseudonym as I also review and work at a review place as well. I am a self-confessed bookaholic and have over 300 books in my collection with more coming every week it seems. LOL I am currently working on a series for Mardi Gras Publishing called Devon Falls Magic Series. It will have 5 books out this year alone with possibly more to come in the future.


LBRR: What is the most memorable and most forgettable moment you’ve encountered on the writing path?

Raine: oh man..this is a good question. J Memorable would be getting my first review from an author and finding out they loved the book and are telling everyone about it! *grins* Most Forgettable would be my 1st book that I wrote which was in 1st person and frankly I am totally reworking it when I have the chance and reworking the whole angle. It was that bad. *groans*

LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?

Raine: I currently work part time as a Prep Cook/Head Baker for a small Coffee Shoppe. I love working the mornings and then I work in the afternoons and after the kids are in bed on things.

LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?

Raine: Not really. I enjoy many quotes and there isn’t just one that hits me hard! J

LBRR: What was your first published story?

Raine: Sticky Magic was my 1st, followed by Red Hot Magic, and Charmed Magic. Due to a publisher change, Sticky Magic is now out of the public eye until Dec. 2007. J

LBRR: Which of your story heroes do you love best and why?

Raine: I love all my heroes. But my hero in Fiery Magic coming June 23rd from MGP, is a man determined to right a wrong he committed to the one woman he has loved for so long. Damien has loved Alicia since the 5th grade but when he was forced to break her heart and preserve the family secret, he broke not just her heart but his as well. Now he is back to run the Dragon Inn and set things right with Alicia because he is determined they belong together and he is still in love with her after all these years. Damien is strong, gentle and determined as well as sexy as sin! J

Now his brother on the other hand, Rodrick, is one man who loves the ladies and they love him...Well until he opens his mouth and ends up inserting foot. *grins* He is a riot as he finally gets his comeuppance and finds himself on the receiving end of the frustration he invokes within others and ends up learning that sometimes life delivers paths that he needs to watch for!

LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?

Raine: Nope...I write by the seat of my pants. J I also find that certain music gives me inspiration as it shows in Red Hot Magic with Andrea Bouchelli and Charmed Magic with Josh Groban’s Classical CD mentioned.

LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?

Raine: I watch movies; spend time with my kids, family and my boyfriend. I am learning to roller blade so that is an interesting feat when it is nice. J I also read voicariously and basically veg at home. I am a major homebody and love to take walks with the kids and my honey when it is nice here in Western NY.

LBRR: What are you working on now?

Raine: I am currently finishing up Fiery Magic and then I am working on Haunting Magic, Rodrick’s story coming at MGP in October 2007. J Then I am finishing a Fae 2 book series for another publisher and hopefully that will be out in 2008 in e format and print.

Dorothy Bodoin

I live in Royal Oak, Michigan, with my black collie, Holly, who is the model for Halley in my mystery series with Wings ePress.  I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English and many interests, for example, in music, art, history, and archaeology.  I’ve worked and traveled in Europe, but at present, I’m happiest at home at my computer writing my ideas into stories.  I write romantic suspense, mysteries and have one Gothic romance.

DB:  Thank you for the invitation.

 

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?

 

DB:  This might interest my readers.  I own many of the objects that I’ve written about in my books.  Also, I collect an object to go with every one of my published books.  For instance, I have a small Royal Doulton fox figurine for CRY FOR THE FOX; for DARKNESS AT FOXGLOVE CORNERS, I have a miniature three-dimensional Victorian house and there’s a little log cabin for A SHADOW ON THE SNOW.  I own the jewelry that played a part in THE CAMEO CLUE.  I still have to look for items to go with my latest releases.

 

Also there’s a dog in every one of my books, usually a collie.  In my current book, I have an adult collie and three mischievous collie puppies.

LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?

 

DB:  The most memorable moments were receiving glowing critiques from a professional evaluator for my early books.  They gave me hope that I could make a sale one day.  Then, of course, the most memorable moment was the sale of my first book, DARKNESS AT FOXGLOVE CORNERS, to Five Star.  The most forgettable moments were my dealings with three less-than-ethical agents.  Fortunately I only lost six months with one of them, but these experiences influenced my decision to submit without an agent.

 

LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?

 

DB:  I taught English in a Michigan secondary school for several years before leaving education to write full-time.  Over the years, I taught every English course offered at my school, and for a long time I was the sponsor of the school newspaper.  I gave this job to my series heroine, Jennet Greenway.

 

LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?

 

DB:  Yes, it’s “The day with its possibilities lay before me.”  I read it in a book when I was in grade school.  It was the last line.  I’ve long since forgotten the title of the book and never knew who wrote the quotation; but it stayed with me.  It reflects the way I look at life.

 

LBRR: What was your first published story?

 

DB:  My first published book was DARKNESS AT FOXGLOVE CORNERS.  It was marketed by the publisher as women’s fiction, but I always considered it the first in my mystery series.

 

LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?

 

DB:  I don’t follow a strict writing routine, although I do most of my first draft writing in the morning, from about 8:00 to 10:00.  I try to work on my novel-in-progress a little every day.  My goal is to write a chapter a week. 

 

LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?

 

DB:  When I’m not writing, l read, go for walks, garden, mostly in the spring, watch movies, and plan my next book.  As you can see, I lead a very quiet life.

 

LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.

 

DB:  That is also my first published book, DARKNESS AT FOXGLOVE CORNERS.  When it went out of print at Five Star, I submitted it to Wings who had published the other five books in the series.  They accepted it.  I made a few minor revisions, and it was released with a beautiful new cover in February, 2007.

 

In DARKNESS AT FOXGLOVE CORNERS, my heroine, Jennet Greenway, moves to Foxglove Corners when a tornado damages her previous home.  On her first day in town she meets a handsome deputy sheriff, Crane Ferguson, and also her nearest neighbor who lives in a mysterious yellow Victorian house.  Soon Jennet is involved in a mystery with roots in the past that puts her at odds with Crane, a man to whom the law is all important.

 

LBRR: What are you working on now?

 

DB:  I’m working on a stand alone novel of romantic suspense with a very strong supernatural element.  My heroine, Susanna, has to deal with an enemy from her past and a mysterious woman who haunts a blue Victorian house in the Michigan countryside.  I’m having fun striking a balance between the story’s two elements.

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?
 
Let's see, well, I've been around military men most of my life which is probably why I like to write about them! My father was Air Force and was in one of the first around the world flights. My husband is in the army, so there you go. I love military heroes. I also have become an addict to working out. I mostly lift weights and have done three amateur body building type contests. I emphasize amateur as I don't have the physique nor desire to do that professionally, however, I started the work outs to get back my health. (You can read about it at my website at www.lisefuller.com and hit on the fitness tab.) I'm such a fan I started a blog for the average women where I detail the things I know and articles I read that might help other women--and men as far as that goes. You can find that at www.lisestips.blogspot.com. I'd love for everyone to check that out.
 
I also love adventure and you can see that from my writings. Two summers ago I went to Guatemala to work on an archaeological dig, which was fascinating. Anyway, I love adventurous heroines--not that they have supernatural skills or are macho kick butt, but ones who seem more real yet because of circumstances do extraordinary things.


LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you've encountered on the writing path?
 
Wow, I think the thing that comes to mind right now is the nomination for the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award for 2006 for On Danger's Edge as well as Coffee Times Reviewers Recommended Read and Joyfully Reviewed's Recommended Read for Intimate Deceptions, the first sequel to On Danger's Edge.
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
I was a management consultant, manager in a large corporation and an accountant. I have an MBA and CPA and have worked reviewing several large buyout's, etc.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
I love quotes. I find them so inspiring, so I have many. (I also love poetry.) One of the ones I'm using now is "Fail to plan, plan to fail."
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
On Danger's Edge is my first one, the one up for the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award. I have two more out with Cerridwen Press--Cutting Loose, a fun contemporary romp and Intimate Deceptions, the first sequel to On Danger's Edge.
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
Mostly. I try to take care of the business end in the morning and then do my writing at night.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
Lately I've been working on promotion since I have two books out in print now (On Danger's Edge and Cutting Loose). However, I really like to focus on my family and my work outs. I also work with my son's boy scout troop on occasion. Last summer, I was the female advisor to the troop when they went to Philmont Scout Ranch, a high adventure camp.
 
LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.
 
The latest? Well, that would probably be Intimate Deceptions, although the other two are coming out in print. Probably the best thing I can do is post the blurb about it!

Judith Gilbert

My name is Judith Gilbert.  I write contemporary romances under Judith Gilbert and paranormal's under J Gilbert.  I've always wanted to write but put it off for a career that would allow me to eat and pay the bills, accounting.  Much later, I knew that if I didn't go for that dream I kept putting off, I never would.  All those stories I kept seeing in my mind, all those wonderful characters would die with me.  I finally walked away from accounting to write.  So far, I have three books published with Triskelion. The Mistletoe Affair, His Farm, Her Circus under Judith Gilbert and Blood Hunt: The Legend under J Gilbert.

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?
 
JG:  My friends and family know I have absolutely no sense of direction.  Believe it or not, I have maps to and from places.  Now that's bad! 
 
I'm petite, but when I worked in Houston I had a personal trainer that introduced me to powerlifting.  My legs are strong from running and kick boxing, so I can lift a lot of weight for my size.  It was always fun to see the look on guys faces at the gym when they finished with a machine and moved the weight WAY back for what they thought I could lift and my personal trainer would move it forward.  Usually their jaw would drop.  Some actually stayed to see me lift, thinking it was a joke.  No, I'm no superwoman, but for my petite size, I do pretty good.     
 
LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you've encountered on the writing path?
 
JG:  Some of the most memorable moments have been when readers tell me they've read The Mistletoe Affair five times or that Blood Hunt: The Legend was so good they read it two times before they could put it down.  When I create a page turner, a keeper as my readers' call them, I know I did my job.  I have successfully put on those pages the story that was haunting my mind.   
 
One of the most forgettable moments, but unfortunately we never forget those moments, do we?  When I won one of many writers' contests and attended a conference in which the editor, one of the final judges of my entry, made a point to tell me that she'd never read a contest entry that was publishable.  Now that dagger pierced my heart.  It took a lot not to let her know she'd succeeded in hurting me, but I wouldn't give her that satisfaction.  
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
JG:  I've worked most of my life, from cleaning houses, babysitting, working in department stores to selling door to door.  Later, I worked during the day and went to college at night.  I earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and a masters in business administration.  After I graduated from college, I worked primarily in governmental accounting and later as a Senior Financial Analyst with a major oil company in Houston. I thrive on stress so high power finance jobs fit me pretty well.      
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
JG:  I have several taped to my computer.  I have no idea who said them, but here's a few:
You can't wait for inspiration.  You have to go after it with a club. 
There's no perfect time to write.  There's only NOW!
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
JG: An e-book release with Triskelion titled, The Mistletoe Affair.  It's a story about moving beyond loss, grief and failure.  It's about hope. After losing her father, divorcee Katherine Cahill goes home to Houston and fights to return the joy of Christmas to her mother and young son.  At the same time she secretly battles two men, her two-timing ex-husband who blackmails her, and a growing attraction for a Texas attorney hell-bent on sharing his bed with her, but not his heart.

LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
JG:  I stay at the computer when I don't have anything else pressing that needs my time.  I have hyperactivity so it isn't unusual for me to stay up really late, even all night, writing. 
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
JG:  I'm an excercise nut, love to run, do step aerobics and kickboxing.  The tomboy in me still loves to play in the dirt, so I work in the yard twice a week, weeding, cutting back and tending to the large vegetable garden we have. 
 
LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.
 
JG:  An e-book release with Triskelion titled, Blood Hunt: The Legend.  One woman must make a decision, keep a deadly secret or let an innocent child die?
If she uses her blood to save him, nurse Brianna Eaton can no longer hide what she is--a hybrid--part vampire, part witch.  Her action attracts the unwanted attention of many forces that come against her, some who want her dead.  Not even the fierce vampire protector her father assigns to help Bri can stop the fulfillment of The Legend. 
 
This book is scheduled for release as a Print book in November 2007.  When it's available for Pre-Order, I'll let the world know.    
 
LBRR: What are you working on now?
 
JG:  Another paranormal, The Ghost Within, which promises to be a very sexy and  scary read.  I'm also working on a couple of short stories and refining the synopsis and plot for the second book in the Blood Hunt series.

Rhonda Jackson Joseph

Rhonda Jackson Joseph was born in the small town of Richmond, Texas in 1971.  Her earliest foray into writing was writing plays for production by her younger brother and sister at home.  She later ventured into writing romance during junior high school when she produced numerous short stories in which she and her best girlfriends were the heroines and the popular eighties boy band music superstars were the heroes.  The stories were circulated and garnered quite a following among her peer group.
Rhonda has always loved everything about words—writing them, reading them, speaking them, etc.  She has had several short stories and articles published in online and print publications.  Her first novel, a contemporary romance entitled Call It What You Want, was released by Tea and a Tome Publishing in March 2007.  She is currently working on several other novels and a screenplay.
Rhonda currently lives in Houston, Texas, with her husband and four children.   There is never an unwritable moment in her life...

RJJ:  Thank you for having me, Kelly.  It's great to be here.
 
LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?
 
RJJ:  Some people find it funny that I write horror as well as romance, but not paranormal romance.

LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?
 
RJJ:  I think the most memorable thing was when I did my very first agent pitch at a local conference a few years ago.  We were in a group pitch session, and because I decided to sit at the front of the table, I had to go first.  The agent was a really well known one, and he was huge, with a huge voice.  And after my pitch, he very quickly cut me down.  All the way down.  But he did say that the premise of the story was one that he would like to see more of.  I didn't have the sense to be crushed that he'd shot me down the way he did--I was too excited about what he did like, lol!
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
RJJ:  Most immediately, I've been a housewife.  I worked in corporate America for quite a while, in the banking industry.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
RJJ:  "Butt in chair, hands on keyboard."  I'm sorry, I don't know who to attribute it to.
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
RJJ:  My first published story was published in a confessions magazine, and the original title was "Dying in the Bed I Made".  It was as dramatic as the title hints.
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
RJJ:  I really don't.  With the kiddos at home, I'm glad whenever I can fit some time in to write, whether that's when they're having breakfast, or after they've gotten down for the night.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
RJJ:  Besides wrangle kiddies?  I love to read just about anything I can get my hands on.  And I also love to dance.
 
LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.
 
RJJ:  My most recent release is entitled Call It What You Want, and it's a contemporary romance novel about two up and coming business people who don't want the commitment of a full time relationship.  They propose to just deal with each other on a purely physical level, but of course, that spirals out of their control.
 
LBRR: What are you working on now?
 
RJJ:  Right now I'm working on two romance novellas, and a screenplay.  A horror short story collection I've been working on is almost complete.

Denise:  Thank you, I'm delighted to be here.

 

LBRR:  Please tell us about yourself.  Are there any fun facts you'ld like your readers to know? 

 

Denise:  I live in Maryland with my husband and 5 children, 3 girls and 2 boys. I'm an Army vet and former Private Investigator. Hmm, fun facts. I really love chocolate, my favorites are coconut filled and marshmallow filled.  The last time my husband bought me a box of mixed candy, he pointed out the fact that whenever I found my favorites in the box and bit into them I would always whisper mmm baby. I thought he was joking until my sons agreed and then pointed a few other strange things that I did that I wasn't aware of. 


LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you've encountered on the writing path?

 

Denise: I remember the first fan letter that I received. I called my family and friends to share it with them. I was so proud and it was the best feeling ever. I still have that letter. The worst time was when I received a bad review. I know that people have different taste, and not everyone is going to like what I write, but it really hurt my feelings. After a day or two, I shook it off and moved on. 

 

LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?

 

Denise: Oh man I did a lot of different things, I was a process server, house painter and handy woman, ( I can even install a toilet).  I did waitress, and was a shoe store manager; I was even a childcare provider for two years. 

 

LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?

 

Denise: Yeah, but I can't say it now.

 

LBRR: What was your first published story?

 

Denise: My Everything, my first book.

 

LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?

 

Denise: I try to write in the mornings, but it doesn't usually work out that way. Some time I don't get started until late afternoon, and usually write until 10 or 11 PM.

 

LBRR: What do you do when you aren't writing?  

 

Denise: I spend a lot of my free time with my family, we try to get together on Saturday afternoons. I love to travel, read, and listen to music. On occasion, my husband and I go antique browsing.  

 

LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.

 

Denise: My Angel is about a young woman,  Simone Porter who is a kind and caring person.  Simone’s mother Debra does everything to control her, from trying to chose her occupation to picking the man that she thinks is suitable for her daughter. And Matt,  who has a terrible accident a few days after he divorces the woman he thinks was the love of his life.  Simone witnesses the accident and comes to his rescue. Matt is in a coma for 4 months, and the voice of Simone, his angle is what leads him to consciousness. When he wakes he and Simone become good friends. Matt convinces himself that he and Simone are only friends and his only interest is to help Simone find her independence. However, with the help of his angel, Matt finds his heart, and his true love.

Denise: I am working on a sequel to my first book My Everything.

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?
 
CG:  I have been writing since 1987.  It took me 18 years to get published.  In fact, I had decided to hang up my keyboard and move in another direction when I received my first publishing contract.  Now for a fun fact...I can drive and operate a back hoe.:-)

LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?
 
CG:  These would have to be in regard to rejection letters I've received in the past.  Two of the most memorable and forgettable--well I wish I could forget them :-) are as follows:  One editor commented, "Your story reads like an old black and white movie in fast forward."  An agent commented, "Slow and talky and does not inspire page turning."
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
CG:  I worked as a clerk in a hospital and doctor's office.  I was a secretary for a company who made restaurant equipment and I worked in a credit union as well.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
CG:  Yes, one of my favorite quotes is from Teddy Roosevelt.  It goes like this:
 
"It is not the critic who counts, nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.  The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows great enthusiasms, great devotions; who spends himself in a  worthy cause; who, at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
CG:  The very first thing I had published was a short story called "Bogey Man".  It was published by Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine many years ago.  It is actually available as a free download on my web site: www.chergorman.com.  My first published novel is Wolf Island and it was a 2006 Eppie Finalist. :-)
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
CG:  I try to write each and every day.  I also try to focus on my goals and make strides toward reaching those goals each day.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
CG:  I play the harp.  I also hang out with my family, watch movies or my favorite shows on television like House, Masterpiece Theater, Without a Trace, Battlestar Galactica...

KV:  Hmm.  As my bio said, I've been writing my whole life. I used to think I would end up writing children's books. I have a couple half finished but I just wasn't really happy with them. I found romance books a couple years ago and thank God I did! They bring so much to my life. If I can bring even a touch of the joy I get from romance books to my readers I feel I will have truly succeeded.

LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?
 
KV:  I'm a new author so everything is memorable to me, LOL. Most forgettable, I'd have to say my first rejection. It bummed me out even though it was a good rejection. I still want to forget it. The most memorable would have to be getting my first reader comment. I smiled for a week.
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
KV:  I worked as a registration clerk in the Emergency room. It was a blast. I really enjoyed it.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
KV:  I don't know the author but the quote is: It's never too late to be what you might have been.
To me, the give us all faith.
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
KV:  Dream Man
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
KV:  Well, I have a three year old daughter I stay home with so my schedule depends on hers! I write when she naps or goes down for the night.

KV:  Cooking, cleaning, laundry, LOL. I like to spend time with my family. I spend my days going to the park, Chuck E Cheese, etc. with the little one. I also like to watch movies and read. I'm a HUGE reader.

LBRR: Please tell us about yourself. Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?

DB: Well, I don't know about fun, but definitely odd things. For example, I'm addicted to popcorn! I also don't like erotic romance overly much, despite being pretty good at writing it! My tastes in music and literature are as wildly diverse as my group of friends, really. I have a fondness for romantic love songs more than any other style of music, and that's a holdover from when I was a kid and listened to it all the time because my mom loved Engelbert Humperdinck! Books are so wonderful, and my tastes there range from classics to pirate tales, to fantasy epics.

LBRR: What are some of your most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?

DB: Most memorable would have to be the first sale. I'll never forget it because I was sure I'd never make it into the finals of the contest. I wrote the story in a matter of hours because so much was going on that I kept getting away from the piece. Then, at the last minute, it all fell into place and I submitted it to the Amber Heat Contest, held annually by Amber Quill Press. When it came time for the winners to be announced I was sure I hadn't placed, then the winners list was published and my story was there!

I don't know if there's a forgettable moment, really. More like a disappointing one, which came after the first book of my Victorian Mystery/Erotic Romance set was published to great reviews and I saw the first sales report! It was dismal, despite the many people who'd written and told me that they couldn't wait for it to be released. The Devane Files One: Out of Hell is one of the best pieces of fiction I've written, using the Ripper murders as a setting, but it's sold worst than anything else. You just can't tell what the magic formula will be. The book I hate the most is the one that sells well! (Simply The Best)

LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
DB: Jewellery Designer, Sales Clerk, Waitress, Inventory Clerk... I just couldn't escape the need to be a writer, and it kept pulling me back.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
DB: "Who so loves, believes the impossible."
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
DB:  A short Historical western called "A Safer Haven", which is out of print now, but will be back in print in a new revised version very soon with Samhain Publishing. The new title is: Another Man's Wife.
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
DB:  Most days I try to be at the computer by 9 AM, do the mail, check my newsgroup, etc., do a blog if I have anything to say, then I get to the writing. Most days, all told, I put in 8 - 10 hours, and then I occasionally give myself permission to take a few days off.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren't writing?
 
DB:  There's a beautiful park close to where I live, and I like to walk there. Also, reading is a great refresher for me whether its fun reading or research. Then there's the music. The romantic stuff, currently a lot of Patrizio Buanne. There's a reason he's been dubbed "The New Voice Of Romance" and once you hear him, you understand it perfectly! This young Italian has a bright and beautiful future ahead of him as a successful entertainer.
 
LBRR:  Please tell us about your most recent release.
 
DB:  The newest release is a short action thriller with a Martial Arts theme. My first book with New Concepts Publishing, it's called "Silent Death" and is available at: http://www.newconceptspublishing.com/silentdeath.htm
 
LBRR: What are you working on now?
 
DB:  I'm doing a book called "The Light Within My Soul", a romance that is being targeted for submission to Harlequin Presents. I'm having a wonderful time with it, and it's going to be one of the better ones, I can feel that already!

DB:  Quite a large number of readers have written to me over the past couple of years. I encourage them to let me know what they like and what they don't like, or what kind of stories they'd like to read. I answer every mail, though it sometimes take a day or two, depending on how busy I am. If I'm in the middle of edits or promo, it can take a few days. Still, my webmaster put a Contact link on the site and everyone's welcome to write, and/or join the newsgroup, which is really fun some days, I have to admit. LBRR: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.  Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?
 
CBC:  Well, as my husband Tom...affectionately known as Buddha Belly among my readers...says: I'm 5'6" of green-eyed mischief. I have salt and pepper hair and the ravages of the years is spreading my girth and my hips. I love gardenia scented perfume and pomegranate/mango body wash. I am addicted to Subway BMT sandwiches with everything on it except cucumbers...extra jalapeño peppers, please...which I take home and heat up in the microwave until the pepperjack cheese melts. My secret treat is to lay in bed with a spoon and a container of frozen strawberries and happily crunch away while watching tv. I get really annoyed by stupid drivers and people who love to give your their opinions whether you ask for them or not. I was born in Florida and adopted, raised a Freewill Baptist in Georgia but converted to Catholicism before I met my husband..who is a NY Yankee. When I get angry or sad, I cook. When I get bored, I clean. When I'm happy, I cry.

LBRR: What are some of the most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?
 
CBC:  Memorable -- When I held my first print book in my hand in 1996. I cried like a baby and stroked that sucker as though it were my child...which is a way it was.

Forgettable -- I was in Orlando at the Romantic Times Booklovers convention a few years back and we were all lined up to go into a medieval dinner theater. I was standing there with my husband and one of the NY authors turned to me with a sweet, ingratiating smile and asked if I was an author or a fan. I told her I was an author. She asked for whom I wrote. I told her I wrote for Amber Quill Press and Hard Shell Word Factory. She looked blank for a moment then a woman standing beside her whispered something in her ear. I swear I heard the one speaking to me hiss and she got this haughty, nasty look on her face. "Ebook?" she stated. "Yes," I agreed. Her upper lip cocked and in a voice dripping with sarcasm said: "Well, maybe you'll get published by a real publisher one day, dear." Whereupon she turned her back on me and shared a contemptuous giggle with the trio of women standing with her.  One thing is for sure: I'll never buy another of her books. If she couldn't support a fellow author--no matter how or with whom that author is pubbed--she sure doesn't need my support. I feel the same way now about romance authors who look down on those of us who write erotica. You'd think we were perverts by the way some of them treat us at conventions. You know what I believe it is? Jealousy and fear that we're taking readership away from them and money out of their pockets.
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
CBC:  I was a waitress, a shoe clerk, a long-distance operator for Southern Bell, took tickets and sold concessions at a movie theater, worked in an office supply store, receptionist, manager of a dry goods store, stocked groceries in an Air Force commissary, was a licensed dental assistant and finally a parish secretary. All those jobs have worked into my novels over the years.
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
CBC:  May the Wind be always at your back is on my webpage and email signatures but my favorite quote comes from Scottish actor Gerard Butler: "There's nothing like a badass to make a girl's heart beat faster".
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
CBC:  My movie, book and play reviews when I was an entertainment editor...along with a few columns I wrote...were the first paying publications. The Keeper of the Wind, which was the mass market paperback of what is now Windkeeper, was the first book published. It was with a publisher who is no longer in business. I did my first book tour--three weeks, twenty-one cities---with that novel.
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
CBC:  Not really. My husband gave me a 12 X 24 cedar building which he had put right off our back deck. The building is soundproofed and has everything I need in it. I go out usually first thing in the morning to answer emails, work on my webpage if I need to then I settle in to write as the Muse...whose name is Sean...leads me.  I am usually out there until around 5 pm, seven days a week. I'm not necessarily working all that time. I usually take a break to watch General Hospital around 2 pm and eat my lunch while I lay on the sofa seat and ogle Greg Vaughan, Tyler Christopher, and Jason Thompson from that show. They are the inspiration for three of my Western Wind reapers. If I get bored writing or just plain don't feel like doing it, I'll pick up a novel, a Pepsi, a bag of Scoops and a jar of salsa and immerse myself in  some other author's words.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
CBC:  I read or watch tv. I never miss Rome, NCIS, Lost, The Closer, Nip/Tuck, Craig Ferguson, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, and Vegas. Those are my favs. I have such a large TBR stack of books  I doubt I'll ever live to read them all. I devour movies and tv shows in which Scottish actor Gerard Butler has worked. I've been a fan of his since 1999 when I saw him in Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married. The man is just now hitting his stride with the release of 300 that came out this week. I've always known he was destined to be a huge star. My DemonWind series which began with BloodWind was written for him and he is the Prime Reaper in my Western Wind series.
 
LBRR:  Please share some information about your most recent release. 
 
CBC:  I had three come out within a few days of one another from three different publishers. The WyndMaster's Lady is a dark romance from Samhain Publishing. This book is being written for actor Eddie Cibrian so I've been watching his movies to get the force of his personality to use as the basis for my character.

LBRR: Please tell us a little bit about yourself.  Are there any fun facts you'd like your readers to know?

IR: I've been writing since I can hold a pen. My favorite colors are purple and red. And I love dark chocolate.
 
I think people would be interested to know that before I started writing erotica I was a bit shy when it came to my sexuality. It took me a while to open up and realize that it is okay to be sexually aware and comfortable in your own skin.
 
I started writing erotica about three years ago. It began with an idea of what I thought really happened to Red Riding Hood with the wolf in the woods. That story is actually going to be in NAUGHTY FAIRY TALES VOLUME 2.

LBRR: What are some of the most memorable and most forgettable moments you’ve encountered on the writing path?
 
IR: Memorable moment...I would have to say when Raine Richards from StarDust Press sent me an email saying that she was interested in reading the rest of my book. And then a few weeks later she sent me a contract. That was the best day ever!

Forgettable moment...I would have to say an email I got from a man who asked for me to send him pictures of me. That just puts a damper on my fun.
 
LBRR: What other jobs did you have before becoming a writer?
 
IR: I worked at Borders Books for a while, that was loads of fun. I worked hard but I got to be surrounded by what I love most...books. I love books. My house is in danger of turning into a library.
 
LBRR: Do you have a favorite quote?
 
IR: Well my personal quote is...Always wonder. Always dream. Always ask. Always dare.
 
LBRR: What was your first published story?
 
IR: Red and Wolf got published online through a website that no longer exists. I got so many hits on that one story that it gave me the boost I needed to continue writing more erotic fairy tales.
 
NAUGHTY FAIRY TALES V1 is my first erotic book. Volume 2 will be out sometime at the end of March.
 
LBRR: Do you have a writing routine that you follow?
 
IR: On most mornings, I have a cup of tea, turn on my computer and start transfering all of my notes that I've jotted down on my notebook (I like to write things out with pen and paper before I put it in the computer). I just keep going things over and over until I get it as close to perfect as possible.
 
Then I let my friend Shannon read it. She's my best critic. She'll tell me if something works or if I should change something. My husband Kurt also helps me out when I have to write something from a man's point of view.
 
And then I rewrite some more. There's no such thing as a finished story, only abandoned projects, there's always something you can add to a story to make it better.
 
LBRR: What do you do when you aren‘t writing?
 
IR: Read. I read as though the world is going to end. I'm obsessed with books. It's kinda scary actually.

LBRR: What are you working on now?
 
IR: I just put the finishing touches on Volume 2 which will include rewritten versions of Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. I have a few notes and ideas for Volume 3, I'm thinking Blue Beard, Rapunzel and an old English fairy tale titled The Three Heads of the Well. I'm also working on a fantasy novel, but I'm only a third of the way into the story.
